William Brown’s future in data science took a significant step forward with the General Scholarship from the General Board of Higher Education and Ministries, which helps support his studies at Cornell College. “This scholarship not only provides vital financial assistance but also reinforces my belief in the power of education to create change,” Brown says.
Brown chose Cornell College for its unique approach to learning, where students take one course at a time in intensive three-and-a-half-week blocks. “I’m excited to immerse myself fully in each subject, which will help me develop a deep understanding of my chosen field,” he says. With the support of the scholarship, he is now poised to dive into his studies and pursue a career that harnesses the power of data to drive innovation.
Beyond academics, Brown is dedicated to making a positive impact in his community. His local church supports several outreach programs, including initiatives focused on food insecurity, educational resources, and diversity.
“I’ve seen firsthand how small acts of service, like organizing school supply drives, can make a huge difference,” he reflects. William plans to continue this work during his time at Cornell, knowing that his education and faith both play a key role in shaping his purpose.
