GBHEM Receives 2022 Friend of Children Award from the Boys and Girls Country of Houston
In late January, the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) was presented with the 2022 Friend of Children Education Partner Award for its work and collaboration on the J.A. Knowles Memorial Scholarship.
The J.A. Knowles Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to students who spent their high school years as residents of any orphanage, children’s home or foster care in Texas. It is a generous scholarship that offers significant assistance in helping students fund their education. With this funding, GBHEM helps a plethora of young people to help inspire them to reach their educational goals each year.
The Friend of Children award is presented by the Boys and Girls Country of Houston and divided into several different categories. Marcie Bigord, GBHEM’s Scholarships director collaborated with the Boys and Girls children’s homes in recruiting applicants and assisting students through the application process. “We are honored to be recognized for our work on the J.A. Knowles Memorial Scholarship,” expressed Bigord. “We understand the importance of education and we want to make the academic journey a little bit easier for these students. With this scholarship we can do this and so much more.”
The Boys and Girls Country of Houston provides safe and nurturing homes for children whose families are in crisis. The annual award recognizes donors, volunteers and community partners who have made a significant impact through their contributions of time, talent and treasure.
